HOW TO SHOP MORE CONSCIOUSLY

HOW TO SHOP MORE CONSCIOUSLY

It's worth stopping to think about your own spending habits from time to time. Shopping more consciously does not only benefit the planet, your health, and your wallet - it also helps you to develop a whole new way of thinking.

We've collected some tips for you that are worth considering about!

THINK BEFORE YOU BUY

One of the most important steps to becoming a conscious consumer is to be mindful and intentional with your purchases. Allow yourself some time to consider the purchase instead of acting on impulse.

Have you forgotten about it within a day? Then it may not be for you.

Still thinking about it in a week? It's probably a keeper and worth investing in.

QUALITY OVER QUANTITY

Fast fashion is an example of prioritizing quantity over quality. Because fast fashion products are so cheap, some people buy an item only to wear it once and then throw it away. This is an incredible waste of resources.

Instead, choose to buy quality items that will last a long time. Quality products have a longer lifespan, which saves you money in the long run.

LOOK LOCAL FIRST

Many of the items that we love come from thousands of miles away. Air transport uses tons of fossil fuels and generates a huge amount of harmful emissions.

Supporting your local community also allows the people in your region to thrive. Most local businesses are small businesses run by individuals or families. When you purchase from a small business instead of big corporations, you help to build an economy in your area that is more diverse, equitable, and sustainable.

BUY SECOND-HAND

Give clothes a second chance. Try to buy second-hand clothes instead of new ones. This way you extend the life of an item and save money too. Whatever your reasons, choosing to shop for second-hand items is a great idea. They offer great value to you while doing the environment a huge favor.

As a conscious consumer, it can be very beneficial to create a timeless wardrobe. This allows you to splurge on more expensive items that will be with you for a long time to come. Read our post on how to build a timeless wardrobe here!
