Summer can be a difficult season to dress for but there are a few great ways to dress for the heat and humidity. We have collected some tips that can help you feel better on a hot day!
No matter what your summer day includes, it’s always best to put on sunscreen. This is by far the most important accessory for hot, sunny weather, as sunscreen helps prevent sunburn, skin cancer, and premature aging. Apply sunscreen before you head out and toss a bottle in your bag to reapply later!
WEAR LIGHT-COLORED CLOTHING
Choose light colors and white dresses and button-down shirts, which reflect, rather than absorb, the sun's rays.
Wearing light colors that reflect the sun’s rays rather than absorb them (as dark colors can) helps keep you cool.
CHOOSE BREATHABLE FABRICS
You’ll definitely notice the difference between breathable fabrics and fabrics that trap moisture during the summer. Stay away from synthetic fabrics like nylon and polyester and opt for lightweight options like linen, cotton or silk.
DITCH DENIM
Hot summer days are the time to ditch jeans, pants, and sleeves whenever possible. Denim is one of the heaviest fabrics and you might find it too warm for your summer outfit. Cotton or linen pants are a more breathable option, or if you want to wear denim, go for wide-leg options which still allow some air circulation.
OPT FOR MINIMAL JEWELRY
Since metal gets heavy and sticks to your skin in the heat, opt for delicate jewelry. Choose one statement accessory, like hoop earrings!
CHOOSE LOOSER FITTING GARMENTS
The best clothes to wear on a hot day are garments that move with you. When its hot, sweaty garments clinging to your skin is the last thing you want. Loose fitting clothing is the best choice for stying cool in the summer. Go for loose tops, oversized shirts, flowy skirts and dresses - they will provide air circulation and give your skin room to breathe.
